Waitlisted e-tickets get AUTOMATICALLY cancelled during chart preparation, unless the status has changed to atleast an RAC. Also a confirmed TATKAL ticket does not get any refund. So, wait till 15th 7.00 AM to see whether the status changes to RAC. If you can manage with RAC,then travel by the same ticket if the status has changed to RAC.If it remains in W/L and you HAVE to travel, book for the TATKAL. The tatkal ticket has to be booked and there is no provision of the existing ticket getting converted to TATKAL. Also note that for TATKAL it will be advisable to go for a counter ticket because the irctc.co.in site remains clogged and is very slow during the opening period (8.00 AM). ONCE YOU GET A CONFIRMED TATKAL TICKET, remember to cancel the W/L ticket (you never know, your PNR may get lucky and get confirmed after you book a seperate TATKAL ticket!!)
You may also review in case the TATKAL also shows a WAITLIST by the time your turn comes at the counter or at the net. In that case I will advise you to stick to the original W/L ticket at try y our luck rather than shell out additional Rs.300/- FOR THE SAME WAITLIST STATUS.
Best of luck. Do repost your experience and the usefulness of this answer.
